About This Watch

The Marine Chronometer is, in the most literal sense, the collection through which Ulysse Nardin traces its institutional identity. Since 1846, the Le Locle manufacture has supplied precision chronometers to naval observatories and maritime services across the globe — instruments trusted to determine longitude with the accuracy that safety at sea demands. The Marine Chronometer Manufacture in 43mm titanium and stainless steel translates that legacy into a contemporary wristwatch whose every design decision references the precision instrument traditions of the 19th century whilst delivering the performance standards of a 21st-century Swiss manufacture.

Calibre UN-118 is the movement of record, and its specification is a direct expression of Ulysse Nardin's InnoVision research programme. The silicon escapement — the same advanced-materials technology that underpins the brand's Freak and Blast collections — operates without lubrication, resists the magnetic fields encountered in modern environments, and provides long-term rate stability that conventional lever escapements cannot sustain. A power reserve of approximately 60 hours, displayed via the indicator at 12 o'clock, provides practical autonomy alongside a visual reference that echoes the reserve gauges of classical precision instruments. Small seconds at 6 o'clock and the round date window complete a complication architecture calibrated for clear, unambiguous reading.

The blue dial with Roman numerals is a deliberate act of historical continuity: Roman chapter rings defined the face of precision marine instruments for centuries, and Ulysse Nardin's deployment of this convention connects the Marine Chronometer visually and philosophically to the instruments from which the collection draws its name. The blue alligator strap, matched precisely to the dial tone, provides a refined wrist presentation that elevates this titanium-cased sports reference toward the formal register. Water resistance to 100 metres ensures genuine all-condition confidence. This is a watch that earns its heritage references rather than merely invoking them.
