About This Watch

The Freak collection, first unveiled in 2001 as a provocation directed at the entire convention of watch display, established the principle that the movement could itself serve as the hands — that time could be read by observing the rotation of the calibre's own architecture rather than by following conventional hour and minute pointers. The Freak X brings the intellectual inheritance of that original concept into the accessible range of the Freak family, housing Caliber UN-230 — with its flying carrousel that rotates on its own axis as it orbits the dial — in a 43mm grade-5 titanium case that makes the Freak's architectural radicalism wearable as a daily proposition rather than a special-occasion statement.

Caliber UN-230's flying carrousel is a development of the carrousel complication — a mechanism conceptually related to the tourbillon but with distinct geometric properties — in which the entire oscillator assembly, including balance wheel, escapement wheel, and anchor, is mounted on a rotating platform that travels around the dial, displaying hours and minutes through its orbital position while simultaneously rotating on its own axis. The silicon components — balance wheel, escapement wheel, balance spring, and anchor — are direct products of the InnoVision programme, providing the anti-magnetic, lubrication-free, dimensionally stable characteristics that silicon's material properties make possible. The approximately 70-hour power reserve reflects the movement's energy efficiency.

The black dial — or more precisely, the absence of a conventional dial surface in favour of the calibre's own architecture — is the Freak X's most radical feature: there is no background against which hands move, only the movement itself, rotating through the space within the case. The blue leather strap and ceramic folding buckle provide a material contrast between the watch's technical core and its interface with the wrist. Grade-5 titanium ensures that a 43mm case with this architectural complexity sits on the wrist with a lightness that belies the movement's spatial ambitions. Water resistance to 50 metres. For the collector prepared to read time differently, the Freak X is an invitation to engage with horology as kinetic sculpture.
