Introduced in 2012 as part of Rolex's expanded Everose gold Daytona offering, reference 116505 marked a significant milestone: the first Cosmograph Daytona crafted entirely in Rolex's proprietary 18 ct Everose gold alloy. Unlike conventional rose gold, Everose incorporates a small percentage of platinum into its composition to permanently stabilise the alloy's colour against the fading that affects standard rose gold over extended wear — a metallurgical innovation that ensures the warm pink-gold hue remains consistent across decades of use. The 40 mm Oyster case displays Rolex's characteristic combination of satin-brushed and polished surfaces.

The black dial — here rendered in a deep, lacquered finish with subsidiary chronograph registers at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock — provides maximum legibility against the warm gold surround. Applied Everose gold index hour markers and contrasting hands ensure instant readability, while the tachymetre scale engraved on the fixed bezel allows calculation of average speeds over measured distances. The Oyster bracelet, constructed in matching Everose gold with the Oysterclasp and Easylink comfort extension, offers fine sizing adjustment of approximately 5 mm.

At its mechanical core is the calibre 4130, Rolex's self-winding column-wheel chronograph movement developed entirely in-house following years of research. Operating at 28,800 vph with a 72-hour power reserve, the 4130 employs a vertical clutch mechanism for instant chronograph engagement without needle jump, a redesigned escapement for superior efficiency, and Paraflex shock absorption. The movement carries Superlative Chronometer certification, and the 116505 was produced until approximately 2021 when it was succeeded by the updated calibre 4131 generation.
