About This Watch
Few objects in horology manage to blur the boundary between instrument and jewel as convincingly as this extraordinary Nautilus. Conceived by Gérald Genta in 1976 as a statement in integrated-bracelet sportswear, the Nautilus has always carried an air of quiet audacity — yet this fully diamond-set iteration elevates that spirit into something approaching the transcendent. The 40 mm case in 18-karat white gold is lavished with 100 round-cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.69 carats and a further 32 baguette diamonds totalling a commanding 5.51 carats, each stone meticulously matched for colour and clarity before being hand-set by Patek Philippe's Geneva atelier.
Beneath the sapphire crystal, the dial is itself a composition in light: 255 pavé-set diamonds across the white gold surface are interrupted only by three baguette hour markers contributing an additional 0.01 carats, ensuring the eye is drawn ceaselessly across the glittering expanse. Driving this wearable constellation is Calibre 324 S C, the self-winding manufacture movement that carries the Geneva Seal — horology's most exacting quality hallmark — offering a date display, centre sweep seconds, and a reliable 35 to 45 hours of power reserve. The movement's architecture, with its 22-carat gold micro-rotor, is a study in mechanical refinement that underpins the watch's dazzling exterior.
The integrated bracelet continues the theme without restraint: 150 baguette diamonds and a further 803 pavé-set rounds transform what is usually a steel or plain-gold bracelet into a river of white light on the wrist. The Nautilus fold-over clasp completes the piece with the same technical rigour found throughout, and water resistance to 120 metres ensures this is not merely an object of admiration but a truly wearable creation. Patek Philippe has long maintained that you never actually own one of their timepieces — you merely look after it for the next generation. In this case, the next generation will inherit something extraordinary.
