About This Watch

The Royal Oak Offshore arrived in 1993 as the most provocative statement Audemars Piguet had made since Genta's original Royal Oak two decades earlier — larger, bolder, and unapologetically extreme in its proportions. Reference 26387IO.OO.D002CA.01 takes that proposition to its logical extreme: a 44 mm titanium case housing both a tourbillon and a chronograph in a hand-wound configuration that makes no concession to casual wear. The grade-5 titanium case is among the lightest materials deployable at this case diameter, its satin-brushed surfaces and polished bevels producing the signature AP contrast finish across the Offshore's amplified octagonal geometry. A black ceramic bezel frames the dial in the Offshore's characteristic "Méga Tapisserie" idiom.

Manual winding is itself a statement at this level of complication: it demands a daily ritual of winding that connects the wearer to the mechanical reality of what they carry. The movement combines a flying tourbillon — its cage rotating once per minute without an upper bridge — with a split-seconds or mono-pusher chronograph architecture, each complication demanding its own dedicated mechanism within the movement plate. The dial openworking is executed to reveal this mechanical complexity directly, with skeletonised bridges and plates exposing the interaction between the regulating organ and the chronograph train beneath. Arabic numerals at the hour positions provide the Offshore's characteristic direct, functional readability.

A black rubber strap completes the sports watch proposition, its resilience and water-shedding properties appropriate for a case built with a solid caseback and screw-down crown. Luminous hands and Arabic markers ensure legibility in conditions where the tourbillon chronograph combination might actually be used — an aspiration rather than a guarantee, but one the Offshore has always made with conviction. This reference represents Audemars Piguet at its most technically ambitious and visually extreme: a grand complication for those who measure achievement by complexity resolved within the most demanding tolerances of haute horlogerie.
