About This Watch

Few timepieces command the visceral presence of the Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph in black ceramic. Emmanuel Gueit's original Offshore design — conceived as a bold amplification of Genta's 1972 architecture — reaches its apex in this 44 mm ceramic expression, where the skeletonised dial lays bare one of haute horlogerie's most complex mechanical orchestrations: a flying tourbillon and integrated column-wheel chronograph operating in concert. The result is a watch that is simultaneously an engineering manifesto and a statement of unapologetic bravado.

The movement within is Audemars Piguet's in-house tourbillon chronograph calibre, delivering the regulation function of the one-minute tourbillon cage alongside a flyback-capable chronograph. The open architecture of the skeletonised dial allows an unobstructed view of the tourbillon at 6 o'clock, its rotating cage framed by the dark ceramic case in a study of technical transparency. The ceramic construction — impervious to scratching and maintaining its deep black lustre indefinitely — enhances the movement's visual drama against a matched rubber strap.

Water resistant to 100 metres and fitted with a screw-down crown, the 26407CE occupies a rarefied position in the Offshore catalogue. At this level of horological complexity combined with the uncompromising ceramic construction, this reference appeals to the most serious collector — one who regards watchmaking as art, and who appreciates that the tourbillon-chronograph combination in ceramic is among the rarest pairings the manufacture has ever produced.
